The link between masculinity and mental health is being explored more frequently in academic and research contexts. This study examined the discourse of seven men on masculinity and mental health. By identifying interpretative repertoires, we explored the linguistic strategies employed by the participants to address these issues. The findings reveal the presence of a repertoire of social imposition and another of rupture in discourses on masculinity, as well as a medical/individualizing repertoire and a position of disadvantage regarding mental health. In describing these results, we address the fundamental role of the apology for individuality and authenticity in discourses on mental health and masculinity. We conclude that, despite the adoption and openness to alternative discourses, there persists a reaffirmation of traditional values such as self-sufficiency in masculinity, and the persistence of a medical perspective regarding mental health.Downloads
