Abstract

The text discusses some of the theoretical perspectives for studying the social mobilizations from a cultural perspective. The first part is the diagnosis of the situation in the field of studies of social mobilization, I argued hegemony of structural and strategic perspectives and the current boom in the production of cultural orientation approaches. Then, based on the arguments provided by symbolic interactionism, three theories are reviewed to study culturally oriented social mobilization: a) collective identity; b) collective action frames c) situated action and public arenas. Finally the conclusion is presented in terms of prognosis for field studies of social movements.
