Abstract

The goal of this research is to describe the transitional factors towards withdrawing from crime and its relationship with the narratives of narratives among young offenders that live in the South and East zones of Santiago de Chile. This research is part of a project with a broader scope that aims at exploring elements that may contribute to help young offenders to desist from crime and achieve social reentry. Its outcome will be used to develop a model of post-conviction for adolescents, known as "Proyecto Pasos". In order to carry out the research, we used a qualitative approach with a narrative design. Among the most important outcomes, we found support to the relevance of social ties in the change process to give up crime and its pivotal effect on social backing and learning. Also important is the emergence not only of inflexion points -new relationships and circumstances- but U-turn points -assigning new meanings to old relationships.
