Author Guidelines

Focus and scope
Psicoperspectivas publishes articles that communicate research in the field of psychology in dialogue with the social sciences, contributing to social transformation based on a critical view of current social problems and their potential for change. The articles, which are original and unpublished, communicate the results of qualitative, quantitative, or mixed research; literature reviews developed under the criteria of the PRISMA Declaration; and the systematization of interventions.
We understand “original and unpublished article” to mean those documents prepared by their authors and not previously published in any print or digital medium, whether or not it is a periodical publication. By “published” we mean that it has been made publicly available.

Evaluation
All manuscripts undergo a preliminary review of relevance and quality that considers their suitability for the journal's focus and subject coverage, compliance with the APA style of publication (7th ed.), and the quality of the written document. Once this stage has been passed, they are sent to two or more external peer reviewers, in accordance with the “double-blind” method.

Quality criteria
Based on the above, Psicoperspectivas has established the following characteristics as indicators of manuscript quality:
• Its focus, thematic coverage, and document type is accepted by the journal.
• Its communicates relevant, original research and contribute to knowledge in the field.
• Its conforms to the American Psychological Association 7th ed. (2020) publication style and JARS standards for communicating research in psychology
(https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/resources/apa-style-jars).
• Title and abstract are relevant and informative, the writing is clear, the language is correct, and citations and references are appropriate.
• Thematic definition, approaches, objectives, and contribution of the document are clearly defined.
• Theoretical basis is relevant and up to date.
• Literature review is relevant, up-to-date, and of high quality (50% or more of the works consulted were published in the last five years).
• The manuscript is coherent, presents accurate and sufficient information, the methodology is adequate and appropriately described, the analyses are appropriate, the results are correctly interpreted, and the discussion is meaningful and limited to the results.
• In cross-sectional studies, the age of the research data should not exceed five years.
• The submission is anonymous (blinded for peer review), with a maximum length of 8,000 words (considering all elements of the manuscript).

Manuscripts with the following characteristics will be returned to their authors: documents that do not include a critical view of the subject matter they address; studies that do not demonstrate a dialogue between Psychology and the Social Sciences; literature reviews that do not adhere to any of the protocols described by PRISMA Statement; articles duplicating previous publications in preprints (ArXivs), conference proceedings, blogs, or any other print, digital, or electronic medium; theoretical essays; critical reflections; instrument validations; articles based on experimental neuroscience methodologies; articles attributed to undergraduate students; and manuscripts whose authors have been published in Psicoperspectivas less than 18 months ago.

Publication
Accepted articles are published in electronic format three times a year (March 15, July 15, and November 15) and can be downloaded free of charge from www.psicoperspectivas.cl in accordance with the Open Access policy.

Ethical standards
Psicoperspectivas adheres to the ethical guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Committee on Publishing Ethics (COPE), of which it is a member.

Conflicts of Interest
Any conflict of interest must be reported to the journal's Chief Editor at the time of submission. Failure to do so in a timely manner will be considered unethical.

Reuse of data
The reuse of previously published information or information deposited in repositories (“data sets”) is permitted, provided that it is data and is properly cited.

Conflict Resolution
In the event of conflicts of any nature, the Editor-in-Chief will resolve the issue, after consulting with the Editorial Team, and inform the parties concerned.

Number of Authors
Editorial Team has the right to accept or reject articles having a number of authors that is not proportional to the research work presented.

Endogamy
Committed to avoiding endogamy, 10% of the published authors may have institutional affiliation with the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.

Payments
Psicoperspectivas adopted the Open Access publishing model, meaning that there are no costs associated to publishing or reading its content.
Instead, when authors register the submission of a manuscript, we ask them to also register as reviewers. If their article is published, we ask them to agree to evaluate one manuscript in their area of expertise in the two years following the publication of their article (one document per year), thereby contributing to the quality of the publications.

Form and preparation of manuscripts

Types of manuscripts
We publish only three types of articles: research articles, literature reviews, and descriptions of the systematization of an intervention.
See samples for the format for submitting articles at
https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/paper-format/sample-papers
See our manuscript model in PDF format

1) Research article
The content of articles reporting research, whether quantitative, qualitative, or mixed, must be organized according to APA 7th edition (2020) standards and include the following sections:

  • Introduction (this heading is assumed; do not use it);
  • Method;
  • Results;
  • Discussion and Conclusion (alternatively, the Discussion may be incorporated into Results, in which case the following section will be called Conclusion); and
  • References

The content of each section is described in the APA Standards text and in the description of the JARS standards available at
https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/resources/apa-style-jars

The document must be presented as a professional paper. The template is available for download at
https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/paper-format/professional-paper.docx

2) Systematic literature reviews
In the case of systematic literature reviews, these must fully comply with the PRISMA Statement (http://www.prisma-statement.org/).
The submitted document must include a brief description of the protocol adopted and name its sections accordingly.

3) Systematization of intervention
Detailed description of the planning and implementation of individual or group interventions, identifying the important variables that bring together the subjects of the intervention (e.g., reason, specific topic of interest, patient diagnosis, etc.), considering the results obtained by the intervention; if relevant, developing clinical theory or discussing existing theory on the variable or topic that gives rise to the intervention. The systematization would consider specific interventions by professionals and/or therapists at different moments or phases of the process: initial phase (diagnostic/motivational), middle phase (development/action), and final phase (conclusion of the process and follow-up). The systematization of the intervention should present the content distributed in the following sections:
• Introduction (this section does not require a heading);
• Description of the intervention;
• Systematization of the experience;
• Discussion, and
• References.

Languages
We publish manuscripts in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. In order to broaden the scope and citation potential of articles, articles in English are welcome. The authors are responsible for the proper translation of the document.

Translations
Psicoperspectivas is willing to add the English version of articles previously accepted or published in the journal in Spanish or Portuguese. In this case, send the translation to the Editor, requesting the incorporation of the file. Although the translation is the responsibility of the authors, it must adhere to the original document.

Contributor Role Taxonomy (CRediT)
In the interest of transparency and openness, Psicoperspectivas has adopted the Contributor Role Taxonomy (CRediT) to describe the individual contributions of each author to the work. CRediT offers authors the opportunity to share a detailed description of their various contributions to a manuscript. This statement must be included in the Letter of Originality and when registering the manuscript metadata. Authors must indicate the contributions of all authors according to the roles defined by the CRediT taxonomy and available for consultation at https://credit.niso.org/. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the CRediT designations will be published in the final version of the document as a statement of the authors' contributions. All authors must have reviewed and agreed on their individual contribution(s) prior to submission; it is possible to claim credit for more than one contributor role, and the same role can be attributed to more than one person. On the other hand, not all roles will be applicable to a particular academic work.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
When authors use artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, they should only do so to improve readability and language. The application of technology must be done with human supervision and control, and authors must carefully review and edit the result, as AI can generate results that appear authoritative but may be incorrect, incomplete, or biased.

AI and AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as authors or co-authors, nor should they be cited as such. Authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans.

How to prepare the manuscript
Articles must adhere to the publication standards of the American Psychological Association's Publication Manual (APA, 7th ed., 2020), Professional paper
(https://apastyle.apa.org/).

Blinded article
No information about the authors, such as names, institutional affiliations, and references that could compromise anonymity, should be included, nor should the projects in which the manuscript is enrolled or the institution that approved the research design. This must be ensured as the file will be sent to peer reviewers.

Declaration of originality
When submitting the manuscript, authors must attach a letter to the Chief Editor  including the information omitted from the submitted manuscript, which must also be registered on the journal's website (as metadata) at the time of submission. The letter of originality must be submitted at the time of submission. The article's metadata must be completed by the authors.
