Our current understanding is that the degree of trust that workers bestow on their leader is mainly an emotional process. Thus, this research aimed at identifying the main emotional reactions experienced during incidents of head nurses trustworthiness, and to propose a model that articulates its essential elements. We designed a relational descriptive-analytic method using critical incident technique for data collection, and Grounded Theory for data analysis. We collected information on 60 incidents by conducting 90 interviews on employees of one hospital facility. We found four categories of emotion, all of them intimately imbricated, which led us to propose a model of integration. We discuss the importance of building affective trust between the leader and her team, particularly the emotional experience of self-confidence, in order to foster collaboration in the context of hospital organizational change.Published
